Jesus' life shows us the pattern of ours: compassion, service, and forgiveness. His struggle on earth teaches us that God is with us in the midst of our struggles too. His resurrection brings us new life every day, as well as after death - not by our virtue or faith, but by God's. This isn't just head stuff The Holy Spirit is the mysterious power of God among and within us, making it real; forgiving, heading, reconciling, an empowering. We seek to welcome and serve all people, especially in our local community.. Whether you are gay or straight, poor or well-off, black or white, young or old, male or female, married or single, immigrant or native, spiritually curious or long time church member, you are a loved child of God and welcome as a part of our church community.
OUR HISTORY
Our Savior's Lutheran Church has been in Bonner since 1908, born of Norwegian immigrants working at the town's lumber mill. Serving the close-knit communities of Bonner, Riverside, Piltzville, Milltown, Turah, Clinton, and Potomac, the congregation has rolled out lefse by the thousands, and baptized enough Iversons and Andersons to keep its Norwegian heritage shyly alive. Today, however, things have changed. Our church is moving from being an "across the street" church to a "regional" congregation and draws people from all over the Missoula Valley (make sure to contact us if you need a ride!). We appreciate our more enriched and diverse community which is more reflective of an ever growing multi-ethnic, spiritually varied, American stew.
CORE BELIEFS
If you were to ask ten different people at Our Savior’s their individual beliefs about heaven, sin, free will, or any other theological issue, you would probably get ten unique answers! Nevertheless, there are certain core beliefs which we share that define who we are and who we understand God to be. A good way of explaining these core beliefs lies in the name of our national church body: the Evangelical Lutheran Church (in) America.
We are EVANGELICAL. That is, each person matters to God, and therefore matters to God's church.
We are LUTHERAN. That is, we believe in the transforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and understand forgiveness and faith as radical gifts from God that are given no matter who we are or what we do.
We are CHURCH. That is, every member is bound together in the Body of Christ, gifted by the Holy Spirit, and empowered to be a doer of the Gospel.
We are IN AMERICA. That is, we live , work, and serve in our American context knowing what we do here also impacts the world.
